UNI to present the Russian Gypsy musicians, the Kolpakov Trio and Talisman

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa will host Russian Gypsy musicians Talisman and the Kolpakov Trio, at 8 p.m., Thursday, April 17, in the Seerley Hall Great Reading Room.

Romani musicians from Moscow, Talisman and the Kolpakov Trio are reconstructing authentic Gypsy music of the 19th century. Talisman consists of Anne Harley, soprano; Oleg Timofeyev, Russian seven-string guitar and artistic director; and Etienne Abelin, violin. The Kolpakov Trio is made up of Sasha Kolpakov, Russian seven-string guitar and vocalist; Vadim Kolpakov, Russian seven-string guitar; and Tamara Cherepovskaia, vocalist and dancer.

The program will be followed by a reception sponsored by the University of Iowa REEES (Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies) Distance Learning Consortium and the UNI Department of Modern Languages.
