CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Iowa Waster Reduction Center (IWRC) at the University of Northern Iowa is introducing the Forging a Greener Cedar Valley initiative. This program will provide three local manufacturers with the tools and assistance needed to make their operation more efficient and environmentally friendly.

The IWRC will select three area manufacturers to receive a comprehensive manufacturing assessment that goes beyond the IWRC's traditional on-site reviews. The evaluation will include environmental compliance, waste reduction, energy consumption, process efficiency and more.

Joe Bolick, a process research, reduction and education specialist at the IWRC is excited about the new program. "A big part of this initiative is the comprehensive manufacturing assessment. We are thrilled to work with other area agencies to combine our knowledge of environmental compliance and waste reduction, with their knowledge of energy consumption and process efficiency, to provide these businesses with a thorough evaluation of what they do."

Applications will be accepted from Monday, July 2, through Tuesday, July 31. The three agencies selected for the assessment will be announced in August. To learn more or apply, visit
