UNI to host sessions on improving literacy in elementary education

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The second annual Jacobson Center and Reading Recovery Literacy Academy will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday, Oct. 7, and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Maucker Union, Old Central Ballroom. The event will focus on the Partnerships in Comprehensive Literacy (PCL) model and Reading Recovery.

The academy includes sessions for Reading Recovery teachers and teacher leaders, comprehensive literacy coaches and classroom teachers, comprehensive intervention model coaches, and administrators. Keynote speakers for the event include Peter Johnston, professor of reading at the University of Albany, and Lester Laminack, children's author and professor emeritus at Western Carolina University.

The academy will also host lectures by other experts on literacy and reading throughout each day. For additional information or to register, visit
