CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Iowa Academy of Education will sponsor a public forum at the University of Northern Iowa featuring Iowa Department of Education Director Ryan Wise from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Friday, April 20, in the Budke Auditorium in Schindler Education Center. Wise will talk about "The State of Education in Iowa: Challenges, Opportunities and Key State Initiatives."
Great teachers inspired Wise to switch his career path to education during college, and their significant impact on students has shaped his work in education leadership at the district, state, national and international levels. This work includes leading the development of former Gov. Branstad's signature education reform initiative, the Iowa Teacher Leadership and Compensation System. Wise earned a doctorate in education leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, a master's degree in public administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a bachelor's degree in history from Creighton University.
Wise's presentation is free and open to the public and is part of a larger visit to UNI by the Iowa Academy of Education. Academy members will partake in presentations, discussions and meetings about education throughout the day.
