UNI to host inaugural Community Engagement Celebration Day

Cedar Falls, IA – The University of Northern Iowa’s Office of Community Engagement, in partnership with Volunteer Center of Cedar Valley, is hosting the Inaugural Community Engagement Celebration Day on Thursday, April 19.

The public is invited to attend. From 9 to 10:30 a.m., attendees are welcome to browse nearly 70 community engagement projects. UNI faculty, staff, students, centers and institutes and community partners will be showcasing, class projects, student organization projects, community-based research and individual community engagement work.

From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m, there will be a program and awards ceremony. The program will feature the Spectrum Project which combines music, movement, drama and art for children with differing abilities. Productions are created by children with direction from UNI students.

During the awards ceremony the following will be recognized: Student recipients of the Robert and Yvonne Koob Fund for Community Engagement, Veridian Community Engagement Faculty Fellows, and based on judging that day, awards will be given in eight categories including: Service-Learning/Live Client Project Award, Student Organization/Student Group Project Award, Research-Based Project Award, Social Justice Award, Sustainability and Environmental Awareness Award, Individual Student Project Award and Commitment to Service Award. A People’s Choice Award will also be given.
