CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa will host its annual Family Weekend Friday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Nov. 8. Students, parents, family members and friends are invited to enjoy the many fun events and activities.
On Friday, Nov. 6, TheatreUNI will present the musical "RENT" at 7:30 p.m., in the Strayer-Wood Theatre. Also at 7:30 p.m. are the UNI Singers and Symphonic Band Concert in the Great Hall of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC). Families can also attend an observatory show from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hillside Observatory on Jennings Drive.
On Saturday, Nov. 7, welcome and check in will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m., in the GBPAC lobby. The Family Feast Tailgate will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Rialto and Piazza dining centers. There will be open houses for each of the undergraduate colleges as well as self-guided tours of the art collections, the Botanical Center and a "behind-the-scenes" tour of Special Collections and University Archives.
Other events on Saturday include the Dean of Juggling performance at 2 p.m., in the Maucker Union. The UNI vs. Indiana State football game is at 4 p.m. in the UNI-Dome. A bus will be traveling between Lang Hall and downtown Cedar Falls from 1 to 4 p.m. for families to do some local shopping and to explore the historical downtown atmosphere.
The Wellness Recreation Center (WRC) will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday; and 1 to 8 p.m., Sunday. Students must accompany their family members to use the WRC.
