CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa will host a dance marathon from noon to midnight, Saturday, Feb. 25, in Maucker Union. Dance Marathon is a nationwide movement involving college and high school students at more than 150 schools across the country to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network hospital in their community. This will be the first year UNI hosts the event.

Each hour of the marathon will have themes that reflect the music. Dancers at the event will also get the chance to be with UNI Dance Marathon kids that have been or are being treated at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. The goal is to raise $14,000 this first year.

The UNI Dance Marathon is dedicated to providing hope and comfort for families with children facing life-threatening illnesses not only by raising money, but by also hosting events that heighten student and community awareness. The event costs $12, with a suggested $50 fundraising goal per participant, and is open to college age students around Iowa.

"Along with money, we are raising awareness about the struggles and hardships that these children are facing," said Chelsea Hartman, UNI senior and director of public relations for UNI Dance Marathon. "We are setting a foundation for the children in Iowa City to be able to count on UNI students, faculty and staff to fight along side them every year."
