CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa will celebrate the opening of its newest residence community, Panther Village, with a dedication event, at 3:15 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 6. A reception and tours will follow the event.

Panther Village offers students apartment-style living, while maintaining the advantages and convenience of living on campus. The residence hall currently houses 204 students in two-bedroom, four-bedroom, and studio apartments. Students who live in Panther Village are required to have completed 30 academic credit hours by the time they move in, and be in good standing academically.

Some unique features of Panther Village include private bedrooms, fully-equipped kitchens and furnished living rooms. Cable TV, laundry rooms on each floor and ResNet Internet are also included.

Each apartment in Panther Village includes its own HVAC unit and thermostat for temperature control. Other sustainability features include in-room recycling and energy efficient lighting. A green roof provides a natural filtering system for rain and run-off water, minimizes reflected heat and boosts the insulation performance of the roof.

Panther Village Phase II will open fall 2013 with apartments for 246 students. For more information about Panther Village or the dedication event, visit UNI's Department of Residence site at
