UNI speech team members win events at Twin Cities Forensic League Tournaments

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Students on the University of Northern Iowa's Individual Events Speech Team recently placed second at the Twin Cities Forensic League (TCFL) Tournament at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, Minn.

In addition, three novice students participated at an additional TCFL competition designed for students in their first or second year of competition. Each UNI student received an award.

At the Normandale competition, Amy Larsen, a senior from Ankeny, placed first in both impromptu speaking and poetry interpretation. Sara Gronstal, a junior from Council Bluffs, placed first in dramatic interpretation and second in prose interpretation. Kara Scolten, a sophomore from Rock Valley, placed second in poetry interpretation. Additionally, at the novice competition, she placed first in after-dinner speaking. Phil Rippke, a sophomore from Moville, placed third in impromptu speaking.

In the novice competition, Brent Nichols, a freshman from Marshalltown placed first in both impromptu speaking and extemporaneous speaking. Jessica Armstrong, a freshman from Council Bluffs placed fifth in informative speaking.
