UNI School of Music to present Opera: Hansel & Gretel

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI School of Music will present a winter opera performance of Engelbert Humperdinck’s "Hansel & Gretel." The performances will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 26 and 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 28, in the Great Hall in the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center.

These performances will feature the UNI Opera Ensemble under the direction of Mitra Sadeghpour, director, and Korey Barrett, vocal coach, and will feature the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra led by Rebecca Burkhardt, conductor.

In Humperdinck’s operatic version of the Grimm brothers' fairy tale, the mischievous Hansel and adorable Gretel make their way through the forest searching for strawberries and meet a magical cast of characters along the way. These performances will feature the full production and is a collaboration of theatre, dance and music students.
