CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa will host its annual fall Commencement ceremony at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, in the McLeod Center. This year’s Commencement speaker delivering the student address is Kaylan Brant, a senior accounting and management information systems major, from Baxter, Iowa.
Approximately 501 graduates will participate in Commencement. The names of candidates will be read by Gretta Berghammer, professor of theatre.
James A. Leach, a distinguished leader and public servant who has served in the U.S. Foreign Service, U.S. Congress and the National Endowment for the Humanities and held various positions within institutions of higher education, will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters during the ceremony.
Following the ceremony, there will be a reception on the concourse level inside the McLeod Center with light refreshments provided. Graduates and guests are encouraged to attend. There will also be areas set up for families and graduates to take pictures.
The UNI Department of Military Science will host its annual Commissioning Ceremony at 8 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Great Reading Room in Seerley Hall. Taylor Julander, Altoona; Alec Krekel, Cedar Falls; and Joshua Mixdorf, Waterloo, will receive their commissions as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.
