CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa Office of Career Services will celebrate the 40th annual UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair for Educators Feb. 5 through 7, 2016, in Waterloo. The UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair is the oldest international education recruitment event in the world. Since 1976, more than 28,000 educators have utilized its services.
The fair is a service of the Overseas Placement Service for Educators, a program area of UNI Career Services that connects American international K through 12 schools with certified educators year round.
"We are so pleased to be celebrating 40 years of service to the international education community," said Tracey Godon, senior assistant director of Career Services and director of the UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair. "For more than four decades, UNI Career Services has assisted thousands of educators in landing their dream job overseas. We have proudly served hundreds of American international schools with their staffing needs. To know that UNI has impacted the quality of education in schools around the globe for so many years is certainly a milestone we look forward to celebrating, and we look forward to serving schools and educators for many more years to come."
"I have attended the UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair as a recruiter for more than 21 years," said Joseph Nagy, director of Colegio Bolivar in Colombia. "The most obvious reason for doing so is the consistently high quality of candidates. For me, the fair is the top teacher recruiting venue for schools and candidates."
"I may never have considered teaching anywhere but the U.S. if I had not heard of the UNI fair," said a former UNI student of the UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair. "Attending that event has changed the course of my life in a drastic and completely positive way."
More than 130 schools and 600 teachers typically register for the event. Most schools that come to the fair are associated with U.S. embassies and the U.S. Department of State. Teachers come primarily from Iowa and the Midwest, but the fair does serve teachers from all over the country. The event also has a significant impact on the Cedar Valley. Over a five- to seven-day span, teachers and schools spend time at area restaurants, hotels and local events.
Teachers must register in advance for the UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair. A registration overview and process can be found at www.uni.edu/placement/overseas; the deadline to register is Friday, Jan. 15.
