CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowaâ€™s New Horizons Band (NHB) will perform a spring concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 30, in the Great Hall of the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC) on the UNI campus.
Selections for the concert include "A Leroy Anderson Portrait," "Big Bands in Concert," "America the Beautiful" and traditional concert marches. A reception will be held in the Lobby of the GBPAC immediately following the concert.
The NHB is sponsored by the UNI School of Music and the UNI Community Music School. The group includes members ages 50 and over with various musical backgrounds who travel from all over Iowa to rehearse and perform, coming from as far away as Tripoli and Charles City. The band started in 1999 with 17 members and has a current membership of 80. Diana Blake, retired music educator and director of the New Horizons Band, said new members are welcome to join the group.
