CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Four teams of University of Northern Iowa MBA students will work with area organizations during the spring 2013 semester as a part of the Capstone Experience, a final consulting project required to complete UNI's MBA program.

The teams will undertake strategic management projects for:

- Plews & Edelmann, an Illinois distributor of products manufactured at Grundy Center by Environmental Lubricants Manufacturing, Inc.

- Professional Office Services, Inc., a Waterloo provider of healthcare communications.

- Ramco, a factory automation distributer with main offices in West Des Moines.

- MAKO Enterprises, LLC, a Johnston manufacturer of concrete construction products.

The MBA Capstone Experience is a consulting project that requires students in the program to integrate and apply the principles and skills from the entire MBA curriculum. Each small team of students, working with a faculty mentor, is expected to develop practical responses to real business situations. Projects typically involve a strategic analysis, supported by research to address a question posed by the company.

Each year UNI's MBA program identifies potential clients for its Capstone Experience from businesses and non-profit organizations in northeast Iowa. Due to the limited number of MBA teams, organizations that submitted proposals also were introduced to faculty and professional staff from the Business and Community Services Division of the College of Business Administration. As a result, three additional organizations - the Cedar Falls Women's Club, the Wesley Foundation and the Cedar Valley United Way - will work with the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center and students enrolled in New Venture Development and Management, a marketing course required for the Entrepreneurship Certificate. Also, United Equipment Accessories, Inc., a Waverly manufacturer of machinery parts, has been invited to work with senior level students enrolled in Strategic Supply Chain Management.

Projects are conducted during the first half of each year and are developed to meet the specific needs of the client. Organizations that would benefit from a consulting team to address strategic planning, marketing, operations, or feasibility questions are encouraged to contact Dale Cyphert at 319-273-6150 or for information about becoming a Capstone client.
