UNI hosts Division II collegiate women's Elite Eight rugby tournament

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa will play host to some of the country's best Division II women's rugby teams during the Elite Eight tournament, Saturday-Sunday, April 19-20, at the university's intramural fields.

Playing will be UNI; the University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio; San Jose State University, San Jose, Calif.; York College, York, Pa.; Claremont College, Claremont, Calif., St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia; College of Charleston, Charleston, S.C.; and Providence College, Providence, R.I. UNI won the championship in 2002, and is the Midwest's No. 2 seed. During regional play in fall 2002, the No. 1-ranked UNI women's team beat No. 4 Lacrosse 36-22, then lost to No. 3 University of Dayton, 27-22.
