CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Gallery of Art and the UNI Department of Art will present the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition in Kamerick Art Building (KAB) South from Monday, March 21 through Saturday, April 16. An awards ceremony and opening reception for the exhibition will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, March 21 in the KAB Auditorium, Room 111.
This competitive exhibition showcases outstanding works of art by students in the UNI Department of Art. The juror for this year's competition is Jessica Teckemeyer, assistant professor of sculpture and ceramics at Clarke University in Dubuque. Teckemeyer will make a selection from approximately 350 entries and choose a number of merit awards and honorable mentions. She will also give a lecture at 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, in KAB 111.
Teckemeyer holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and currently teaches at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. Prior to that, she worked in the sculpting, mold making and painting departments at Tivoli Too, a 3D design and production studio located in Mendota Heights, Minnesota. Since 2009, Teckemeyer has fabricated sculptures for internationally known artist Siah Armajani. In addition, she maintains an active studio practice with solo exhibitions at the Des Moines Art Center from October 2015 until February 2016 and at the Sinclair Gallery at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from January through February 2016. All events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday; noon to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and by appointment. The gallery is located on the main floor of KAB South.
