UNI Gallery of Art to present the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Gallery of Art and the UNI Department of Art will present the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition in Kamerick Art Building (KAB) South from Monday, March 24, to Saturday, April 19. An awards ceremony and opening reception for the exhibition will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, March 24, in the KAB Auditorium, Room 111.

This competitive exhibition showcases outstanding works of art by students in the UNI Department of Art. The juror for this year's competition is Terry Towery, associate professor of photography and digital media at Lehman College of the City University of New York. Towery will make a selection from approximately 350 entries and choose a number of merit awards and honorable mentions.

He will also give a lecture at 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, in the KAB Auditorium and present an exhibition of his most recent platinum palladium prints in the gallery showcases titled "Useless Beauty." These photographic works will be on display from Friday, March 7, through Saturday, April 19.

Towery, also known as Timothy Eugene O'Tower, received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Florida and has been exhibiting internationally since 1985. His work is in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Harn Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, as well as private collections. His work has appeared in numerous publications, including Jill Enfield's Guide to Photographic Alternative Processes: Popular Historical and Contemporary Techniques, P magazine and Robert Hirsch's Exploring Color Photography: From the Darkroom to the Digital Studio.

All events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday; noon to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and by appointment. The gallery is located on the main floor of KAB South.
