CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa Dance Marathon exceeded its fundraising goal for the third straight year at its big event on Saturday, March 1. The UNI chapter raised $176, 498, well above its $125,000 goal and a 75 percent increase from its 2013 total.

This total places the UNI Dance Marathon in the top 18 programs in the nation out of more than 200 programs. The group also set the third highest fundraising total ever for a third-year program. More than 1,100 students registered for the event.

This year, the group committed $50,000 of last year's total and $50,000 of this year's total to go toward the new University of Iowa Children's Hospital to fund a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Room, which will be sponsored in the name of UNI Dance Marathon.

Dance Marathon is a nationwide movement involving college and high school students at more than 150 schools. Each school raises money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospital in their community.
