CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- University of Northern Iowa's Department of Education Psychology and Foundations, via Continuing and Distance Education, will offer a master of education degree in professional development for teachers beginning spring 2016.
This program is specially designed to fulfill the professional development needs of classroom teachers and other teaching professionals who wish to deepen their understanding of the teaching and learning process. The program provides a course of study directly tied to teaching practice in which course content, student learning and required research is organized around issues and problems.
"I believe that this program is a unique opportunity to expand a teacher's overall expertise as an educator by engaging in critical thinking and research about various aspects of learning, pedagogy, development and technology," said Michelle Tichy, program coordinator. "This is an excellent program for the teacher or education professional who wants a strong master's program that will strengthen them holistically as a master educator. This program builds on and supports each student's expertise and strengths in order to help each person strive for new levels of excellence as a professional educator."
The program uses a cohort model in which a group of students moves through the course sequence together. Courses are offered entirely online via eLearning, a Blackboard learning environment.
