CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Beginning in October 2009, the University of Northern Iowa Integrated Services Project (ISP) teamed up with the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) to develop a program on substance abuse and domestic violence. ISP is currently working with agencies to develop educational training and ideas for joint services against domestic violence and substance abuse.
The main goal of the project is to develop educational programming for agencies working with these women. "We must remember that domestic violence has a huge impact on the mental and physical health of women," noted Bill Downs, interim department head of social work at UNI. "That is why we need more projects like the ISP, for community agencies to work together and improve services for the women of Iowa."
The mission of ISP is to eliminate any discrimination in services to these women and to enhance their safety and sobriety.
