UNI and the US Army Corps of Engineers offer wetland delineation class

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are offering a weeklong class on wetland delineation from June 11 through 15, at UNI's Tallgrass Prairie Center.

The course provides participants with an understanding of the interaction between vegetation, soils and hydrology in wetlands. Students will learn how to identify wetlands and determine necessary boundaries in accordance with the Section 404 Regulatory Program of the Clean Water Act.

Instruction will begin in the classroom each morning, followed by fieldwork in the afternoons. The fieldwork includes visits to different wetlands in the area. Participants are from several states and represent different organizations including the Iowa DNR, Iowa DOT, Meskwaki Settlement, Santee Sioux Nation out of Nebraska, the Environmental Protection Agency and others.
