CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – TheatreUNI will present "Hair," the iconic American musical by James Rado, Gerome Ragni and Galt McDermot, at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 22, 23, 24, March 1, 2 and 3, and at 2 p.m., Feb. 25 and March 4, in the Strayer-Wood Theatre on the University of Northern Iowa campus.

TheatreUNI’s 2018 production celebrates of the 50th anniversary of "Hair: The American Tribal Love Rock Musical," which debuted on Broadway in 1968. The show centers on a group of hippies in the late 1960s who explore peace, love, sex and discrimination in the shadow of the Vietnam War. The show includes the iconic musical numbers: “Aquarius,” “Let the Sun Shine In” and “Good Morning Starshine,” among others, transporting audiences into a psychedelic fantasy of 1960s New York. Though set in 1968, the cast’s cries of “Peace now, freedom now!” and its message of tolerance and love ring true in 2018.

"Hair" is the third offering of TheatreUNI’s 2017-18 season. The production is directed by Amy S. Osatinski, assistant professor of directing, and music is directed by Rebecca Burkhart, professor in the UNI School of Music, and Seth Butler. Scenic design is by Mark S. Parrott, associate professor of design, and costume design is by Amy S. RohrBerg, associate professor of costume design. Lighting design is by guest artist Jess Fialko and sound design is by Shawn Poellet. The production stage manager is Madison Knaack.
