CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – TheatreUNI will present “The Trojan Women” at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 7 through Sunday, April 9, and Thursday, April 14 through Sunday, April 16, and at 2:00 p.m on April 10th and 17th in the Bertha Martin Theatre on the University of Northern Iowa campus.
For 10 years, the Greek armies have besieged the great city of Troy in a quest to retrieve the stolen queen Helen of Troy, the most beautiful women in the world. After the Greeks, through trickery, manage to destroy the city and kill all of its male inhabitants, the remaining women, nobles and commoners wait in a ruined hall to find out their fate. First performed almost 2,500 years ago, this play resonates for modern audiences with its immediacy and parallels to current events. This production, adapted and directed by assistant professor of performance Matthew James Weedman, is a fresh and exciting take on one of the great classics of theatre.
“The Trojan Women” is the final offering of TheatreUNI’s 2015-16 season. Scenery and projection designs are by Jordan Kelly Andrews, TheatreUNI’s production manager. Costume design is by Jenn Sheshko Wood, assistant professor of design and production. Lighting design is by Kayla Richardson, a senior design and production student. The stage manager is Elizabeth Hicks.
