CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – TheatreUNI will present “The Glass Menagerie” at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 25; Friday, Feb. 26; Saturday, Feb. 27; Friday, March 4; Saturday, March 5; and at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, March 6, in the Strayer-Wood Theatre on the University of Northern Iowa campus.
Tennessee William’s “The Glass Menagerie” is an enduring classic of American theatre. It premiered in a legendary production, starring Laurette Taylor as Amanda, in Chicago in 1944. The production then moved to Broadway, where it won the New York Drama Critic’s Circle Award in 1945. Since that time, the play has been regularly revived around the world and in New York. The latest New York City revival was in 2013, starring Cherry Jones as Amanda and Zachary Quinto as Tom.
“The Glass Menagerie” is the third offering of the Strayer-Wood Theatre’s 2015-16 season. Richard Glockner, associate professor of theatre, is director of the production. Scenic design is by Mark A. Parrott, associate professor of theatre. Costume design is by Jennifer Shesko Wood, assistant professor of theatre. Lighting design is by Eric Lange, head of the theatre department. The production stage manager is Jake Barnwell.
