CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Strayer-Wood Theatre will present "Independence" at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, through Saturday, Oct. 10 and Thursday, Oct. 15, through Saturday, Oct. 17, and at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 18. Performances will take place in the Bertha Martin Theatre located in the Strayer-Wood Theatre complex on the University of Northern Iowa campus.
Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Lee Blessing takes us to Independence, Iowa, to explore the emotional battlefield within the crisis of a chaotic home life. Presented is the study of a family divided against itself in this wise and humorous play.
UNI alumna Kristin Teig Torres returns to her theatre home to portray Evelyn, the emotionally troubled mother. Other UNI alumni include John Bagby and Katrina Sandvik who will serve as scenic and costume designers. Theatre staff member Ron Koinson is the lighting designer. The director of the play is Steve Taft, associate professor in the Department of Theatre.
