Reading Recovery Center celebrates 25 years in conjunction with literacy academy

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa College of Education, Richard O. Jacobson Center for Comprehensive Literacy and the Reading Recovery Program of Iowa will host the fourth annual Jacobson Center and Reading Recovery Literacy Academy Oct. 20 through 21 in Maucker Union.

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the last session will end at 4:45 p.m. Doug Fisher, professor of education leadership at San Diego State University, will be a guest keynote speaker. There will be a special celebration to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Reading Recovery from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Commons Ballroom and Georgian Lounge.

Registration will also begin at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21, and the last session will end at 3 p.m.

Linda Dorn, professor of reading education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and Salli Forbes, director of the Reading Recovery program of Iowa and Jacobson Center for Comprehensive Literacy, will be the guest keynote speakers on Wednesday.

There will be four specific themes available each day, including Reading Recovery teachers and teacher leaders, Comprehensive Literacy Model coaches and classroom teachers, Comprehensive Intervention Model coaches, teachers and interventionists, and Partnerships in Comprehensive Literacy administrators.
