CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- University of Northern Iowa President Bill Ruud expresses his thanks to Governor Branstad for the FY 2015 budget recommendations in support of UNI, particularly the 4% increase in general university operating appropriations which will allow UNI to freeze tuition for its students for a second consecutive year.  This will benefit a large number of UNI students as more than 90% of its undergraduates are from Iowa.  In addition, the tuition freeze is expected to have positive impact on the University’s success in reducing student debt.

President Ruud also expresses his gratitude to the Governor for the recommendation of an additional $4 million to UNI’s base operating budget and the commitment of an additional $4 million in FY 2016.  This will be extraordinarily helpful for maintaining the University in its unique mission as Iowa’s comprehensive university with the outstanding educational opportunities it provides for its graduates, many of whom remain in the state.

Finally, President Ruud thanks the Governor for his support of $2 million for renovation of the Schindler Education Center for the UNI teacher education program.  The Governor’s combination of support for the University of Northern Iowa will advance many important areas at UNI.

The University looks forward to working with the Governor and the Iowa legislature in the 2014 legislative session in support of the Governor’s recommendations for the benefit of UNI.
