Panel to discuss controversial play 'Corpus Christi'

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa College of Humanities and Fine Arts and United Faculty will sponsor 'Corpus Christi and Academic Freedom: A Panel Discussion,' at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 24, in Schindler Education Center, Room 252.

Panelists will give their views on the value of the play staged at UNI in December 2001, the controversy it created; and the implications for academic freedom for students and faculty.

Participants include Robert Koob, UNI president; Aaron Podolefsky, UNI provost and vice president; Peter Feltman, senior theatre major from Fort Dodge, who performed the lead role in 'Corpus Christi'; Christopher McGahan, senior theatre major from Salina, Kan. and director of 'Corpus Christi'; and Barbara Lounsberry, UNI professor of English language and literature and drama critic. The panel will be moderated by Scott Cawelti, UNI professor of English language and literature.

Admission is free and open to the public.
