CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa's Center for Multicultural Education (CME) and First-Year Cornerstone will host Laverne Cox at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2016, in the Great Hall of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center.
Cox is the first transgender actress to be featured on the cover of TIME magazine and to receive an Emmy nomination for her role in "Orange is the New Black." She is also one of TIME magazine's "100 Most Influential People of 2015."
In addition to her acting, Cox is a renowned speaker and will be bringing her empowering message of moving beyond gender expectations to live more authentically to UNI.
Admission to the event is free; tickets are required. Tickets will be available:
- Monday March 28 and Tuesday, March 29 for First-Year Cornerstone students only
- Wednesday, March 30 and Thursday March 31 for all UNI students
- Friday, April 1 for all students, faculty and staff
- After Monday, April 4 for general admission; first come, first served
UNI students will also have the chance to attend a meet and greet with Cox by attending CME events throughout the fall and spring semesters.
