Fundraising expert to present guest lecture at UNI

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Kathleen Kelly, a leading authority in fundraising and public relations, will be the guest speaker for the Hearst Lecture Series at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, in the Lang Hall Auditorium on the University of Northern Iowa campus. She will discuss 'Society's Third Sector: Our Bedrock of Social, Capital, Civil Society and Democracy.'

Kelly coordinates the public relations program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is the author of two books, including the first academic textbook on fundraising. Her work has been featured in U.S. News & World Report, Public Relations Tactics, The Chronicle of Philanthropy and Ann Landers' column. Her numerous research awards include the 1999 Jackson, Jackson and Wagner Behavioral Science Prize from the Public Relations Society of America Foundation.

'Kelly's research, spanning 15 years, has had a significant impact on philanthropy and nonprofit organizations,' said Gayle Pohl, co-chair of the Hearst Lecture Series Committee.

The Meryl Norton Hearst Lecture Series is sponsored by the UNI College of Humanities and Fine Arts and the Department of Communication Studies.
