CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa is accepting applications for its master’s degree program in social science scheduled to begin summer 2017. This two-year program is designed for secondary (six through 12) social studies classroom teachers who wish to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the social sciences as well as improve secondary student learning of social studies in the classroom.

“The program is designed to help practicing teachers develop a deep knowledge in social sciences that they can take back to their classrooms,” said program coordinator Chad Christopher. “Our students really like the cohort delivery model as they get to share teaching resources and develop a great professional network from across the state.”

Courses in this program are offered via interactive video conferencing methods scheduled one night per week during the fall and spring semesters, while summers may include additional conferencing sessions. Some courses and coursework are offered entirely online using eLearning, a Blackboard learning management system.

The program begins this summer using a cohort model in which a group of students moves together through the course sequence, with the degree to be awarded in the summer of 2019. To learn more about the program and how to apply, visit distance.uni.edu/social-science.
