Competitors selected for John Pappajohn Iowa Business Plan Competition

CEDAR FALLS -- Eighteen businesses have been selected from 44 entries to compete in the 2012 John Pappajohn Iowa Business Plan Competition and the chance to win up to $25,000. The competitors submitted executive summaries in the first round, and must now submit full business plans for review by the judges.

"Each year the quality of the businesses competing improves," said Randy Pilkington, director of the University of Northern Iowa's John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center. "We're pleased to have a wide range of business types with broad geographic representation competing this year."

The John Pappajohn Iowa Business Plan Competition is designed to stimulate business development and provide support for outstanding business plans. This year, a total of $50,000 will be awarded to the top three submitted business plans: $25,000 for first prize, $15,000 for second and $10,000 for third. The three winning business plans will be recognized at a special awards luncheon on Sept. 27 in Des Moines.

The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Centers provide entrepreneurial education and business support, partnering with agencies like the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED), Entrepreneurial Development Centers (EDCs) and local entrepreneurs to assist with funding and other business needs.
