CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa's Strayer-Wood Theatre will hold auditions for circus performers for this fall's production of "Lysistrata." Auditions are open to the public and will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, in the Strayer-Wood Theatre on UNI's campus.

Cynthia Goatley, professor of theatre and director, is seeking individuals with circus-type skills for the production of "Lysistrata." Skills include juggling, tightrope walking, belly dancing, face painting, stilt walking, acrobatics, baton twirling and unicycling. This list is not comprehensive, and all circus-type performers who attend will be auditioned. Performers who are cast must be available for select rehearsals, to be determined by the director, beginning Monday, Aug. 27. Performers must also be available for performances at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 4 through 6 and Oct.11 through 13, and at 2 p.m. on Oct. 7 and 14. If cast, performers must supply their own costumes.

Ellen McLaughlin's fresh, fast-paced comedy follows Lysistrata, an Athenian housewife, who calls for the women of Greece to help end the Peloponnesian War. She proposes a radical plan: all Greek women must refuse to engage in lovemaking until the men see reason. The women agree to make the sacrifice and pandemonium ensues as men wander the country in an agony of unsatisfied lust.
