CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- 'Back to Basic Retailing Strategies' will be offered by the Iowa Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of Northern Iowa Regional Business Center Saturday, April 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is one of nine statewide workshops planned by the Iowa SBDC's Targeted Small Business Program.

The day-long workshop, to be held at 212 E. 4th St., in downtown Waterloo, is designed to give retailers many of the tools they need to be successful. Organizers say small businesses play a vital role in Iowa's economy, and in order to encourage their growth, it is important to give potential and existing business owners all the tools they need to be successful. They say success in the future will depend upon the level of understanding retailers have about the new values, expectations, and needs of the customer.

Cost for this workshop is $30 per person, which includes workshop materials and lunch. Pre-registration is required. For more information, contact Katie MacDonald, program manager for UNI's Regional Business Center, at (319) 236-8123 or (888) 237-8124, or log on to the center's Web site at
